Chemists are aware of symmetry in chemistry -- the symmetry
of crystals and molecules. These symmetry aspects are treated
quantitatively through the application of group theory. We
demonstrate how a Maple worksheet can serve as an excellent
medium for the derivation and application of not only aspects
of symmetry but also the actual calculations involving group
theory: the generation of character tables, the enumeration of
normal vibrational modes and th enumeration of chemical isomers.
