Calculus II for the Social Sciences

MATH 158, Spring 2013

Lectures (Room B 9200): Mondays 4:30-5:20pm, Wednesdays 4:30-6:20pm

Office hours (Room K 10501): Tuesdays 10:00-11:00am, Thursdays 10:00-11:00am

My workshop hours (Room K 9503): 9:30-11:20am the day each assignment is due.

Final Exam Tuesday April 16th, 7-10pm in B9200 and B9201.

Textbook

Applied Calculus for the Managerial, Life and Social Sciences by Tan, Ashlock and Menz
We will cover most sections from Chapters 8 - 11, 13 and 14.

Content

  • Chapter 8: Integration (6 lectures)
  • Chapter 9: Additional Topics of Integration (6 lectures): Integration by parts, numerical integration, improper integrals, tables of integrals and computers, and applications to business and economics.
  • Chapter 10: Calculus of Several Variables (7 lectures): visual representation, partial derivatives, critical points, tangent planes, least squares approximation, double integrals and applications.
  • Chapter 11: Differential Equations (4 lectures)
  • Chapter 13: Probability and Calculus (4 lectures)
  • Chapter 14: Taylor Polynomials and Infinite Series (5 lectures)
